The official Sankofa Impact holiday playlist is here! Celebrate the holiday season with some classic tunes sung by various artists including Stevie Wonder, Eartha Kit, and Samara Joy.
The playlist begins with Darlene Love’s Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), an iconic song that many of us sing at the top of our lungs. A tremendous talent, Darlene Wright, later given the stage name Darlene Love, was often relegated to the sidelines.
Throughout her career, Darlene Love performed under different names and for different groups without much recognition. Rarely paid for her talents, Love would later win a legal battle for royalties in 1997. In 2011 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2013, she was featured prominently in the documentary, 20 Feet from Stardom. Every year, David Letterman invited her to sing “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on his show for the holidays. Letterman called Love the “Christmas Queen.” All hail.
